Assistant Innkeeper

The Yarra is a small boutique inn in Roscoe, New York with four guest rooms and an intimate dining program. We focus on thoughtful hospitality, beautiful spaces, and creating a calm, welcoming experience for guests visiting the Catskills.

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Assistant Innkeeper to help with guest services, housekeeping, and dinner service. Because The Yarra is a small inn, the role is varied and hands-on — one moment preparing rooms for arrivals and the next greeting guests or assisting during dinner service.

This position is well suited to someone who enjoys working in a small environment where attention to detail and guest experience matter, and who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of their shift.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning and preparing guest rooms to a high standard
• Turning over rooms between guest stays
• Maintaining common spaces throughout the inn
• General organization and daily upkeep
• Greeting guests and managing guest check-ins
• Providing general guest services and responding to guest requests during their stay
• Front-of-house support during dinner service, including welcoming guests, service, and clearing
• Assisting with the inn’s provisions menu for in-house guests

• Hospitality, hotel, or restaurant experience is helpful but not required

Hours

This is a part-time position. Because The Yarra is a small, seasonal boutique inn, staffing needs vary throughout the year.

Early Season (April–May)

During the early part of the season, the primary shift is Saturdays from approximately 11:00 am to 9:00 pm (about 10 hours). Occasional additional hours may be available depending on guest bookings, private dinners, or special events.

Peak Season (June–mid November)

During the busiest months, the regular schedule typically includes:

• Fridays: 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
• Saturdays: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
• Sundays: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm

This schedule averages approximately 20 hours per week, with occasional weekday shifts when the inn is fully booked or additional support is needed.

Winter (December–February)

Because The Yarra operates with a smaller team during the winter months, hours during this period are ad hoc and dependent on occupancy. This may include assisting with guest check-ins, room turnovers, or occasional weekend coverage.

At times, this role may also involve overseeing the inn during scheduled shifts when the owner is away, including welcoming guests, assisting with check-ins, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the property.

Overall, this role is best suited to someone seeking consistent weekend work during the busy season, with additional flexible hours when the inn is fully booked, rather than someone looking for full-time year-round employment.
